MENNONITE CHURCH IN THE WOODS, ELSPEET

Design a church according to the traditional Mennonite principles: a sustainable building, with the user in mind and a space for gathering and meeting. The first Mennonite churches were hidden and inconspicuous; simple places of congregation around the bible. The interiors were sober and as pure as possible. No distraction or ornaments in order to enhance concentration and togetherness. The new church on Mennorode refers to that time.

FARO was asked by Trudo and Adriaans Project development to make a plan for a central courtyard in the Rijtse vennen development in Deurne. Deurne has set the goal for this development to be sustainable. This project can act as a pilot for sustainable residential developments on a larger scale. Our goal is to seek different ways of thinking about building, developing and living, and to create a sustainable investment for the built environment.

PILOTS FOR SUSTAINABLE PILOTING, IJMUIDEN

Weather and wind, ships, strong quays, locks, bridges and steel industry smoke. This is the context for the Pilotage Service’s new pilot operating base. Inspired by this environment, a sustainable and energy-generating building has been constructed from sturdy, robust materials. Its location so close to Tatasteel was the inspiration for using corten steel, a determining feature that encircles the first floor of the building.
