IS THERE A TASTE GAP BETWEEN LAYMAN AND ARCHITECT?
FARO has developed the architecture taste test. The test was developed to determine whether it is really true that laymen and architects have completely different style preferences. Or put simply, do laymen prefer Retro while architects prefer contemporary architecture? Perhaps there are also interesting taste similarities that are relevant?
The test is not designed as scientific research. It is mainly intended to feed the debate on the ‘laymen versus architect’ theme. We also wanted to research whether our assumption that architects and laymen can also agree about issues would be confirmed. In FARO’s opinion an architect that wants to be at the center of society should take the layman seriously. Particularly at a time in which sustainability will undoubtedly remain high on the agenda, architects must design buildings that have societal support. If something is considered beautiful it will be retained for longer. No matter how subjective it is, the creation of beauty is a sustainable activity.
