ALL VILLAGERS UNDER ONE SLATE ROOF, BADHOEVEDORP
A new social center for Badhoevedorp: the village hall is being rebuilt.
FARO architects has further elaborated its winning competition design in consultation with users, managers and the Municipality into this definitive design that will be realized in 2015.
The competition design is still clearly recognizable and where possible has even been enhanced. The village hall will become a characteristic, recognizable and sustainable building. A village hall’s program is a snapshot; change will be needed regularly. That’s why the building is extremely flexible: a good shell within which spaces can be easily adapted.
The shell (façades and roof) is also smart and sustainable, well-insulated, provides light and views, prevents overheating and offers space for energy generation. And just as important: the roof gives the village hall its modern, new ‘Badhoeve’ character. Inside, the use of wooden rafters provide a warm, playful, ‘homely’ and hospitable feel. The building’s exterior refers to the elegant, beautiful and detailed 1930s architecture, with long lines of guttering and dormer windows and a vertical element that emphasizes the central entrance.
