Block 25 fits seamlessly into the architecture of ‘Haven’ Island in Amsterdam. It has a clear urban exterior, with surprising extras on the inside. The block consists of two apartment buildings and 19 owner-occupied homes.

Block 25 also has extra amenities. A child-care centre on the park and space for a restaurant-type business in the rental block. Both are designed in such a way that they are easily accessible and visible, but won’t disturb the residents of the block. Additionally, the block has two large parking garages, which totals to 25 spaces more than the actual number of units. Unique on the Haven Island!

Block 25 is distinguished by the clear separation between rental and owner-occupied units. The rental part forms a U-shaped block with special corridors around a landscaped deck with trees.

The owner-occupied units are on the other side. These have unique qualities that are very unusual for IJburg, a good size garden and a private, spacious garage. You can park your car behind your own house! These garages can be reached by alleys that refer to the British ‘mews’. These were used in British cities to give access to the carriage houses. The corner units have extra space on the second floor to be used as gallery or studio.

Block 25 is designed to be ‘modern with a wink’: a clean block with modern architecture in colors that fit the Haven Island, but that are fresher than usual. Beautiful brick in warm colors with white frames around the windows. The windows follow the IJburg-trend of vertical windows providing an urban expression. Every owner-occupied unit has a special window. Additionally, the buildings are easily distinguishable from the street or the water by different color bricks or a clear ‘seam’ between the buildings.
